A joke not everyone gets.
Thinking about French food while watching / studying the film Julie and Julia, during the past week, caused me to remember the joke which follows, below.
Where did I hear it? Not sure; maybe Johnny Carson told it.
On the few occasions when I've told it, some people get it, some don't. It depends upon how the listener is thinking, at the moment, and their frame of reference...
--------------------------
When you die,
you know you are in Heaven, if
you
wake up in a place where
the French are in charge of the food,
the Germans are in charge of the economy, and
the English are in charge of the police.
However, you will know you're in Hell if you die and
wake up
in a place where
the English are in charge of the food,
the French are in charge of the economy, and
the
Germans are
in-charge-of-the-police.

I think it WAS Johnny Carson. A very funny man. Great joke. (Although maybe English food is maligned too much. Their breakfasts are excellent. Or maybe I only think that because I ate them with quantities of English beer, which is brilliant.)
