on the road again
I was thinking, we live in the United States of America, what we reverently call "a free country" and yet, do we as individuals ask ourselves, infrequently -- just once in a while -- What Do We Use Our Freedom For?
Is it freedom from moral standards?
Or is it freedom to be kind, and to help right wrongs?
Is it freedom to be obnoxious?
Or is it freedom to "act like we got some class"?
Is it freedom to do the minimum, at work?
Or freedom to offer creative ideas for improvement?
Is it freedom to -- "pahr - tay"?
(And / or) freedom to explore high culture? (And then dance to our popular music afterwards...?)
Is it freedom to serve and protect?
Or is it freedom to harass and bully?
Freedom to "kick some ass"?
Or, freedom to take the lead in positive action?
Do we ever think about this stuff?
(This book Mrs. Kennedy is reading in the above photograph is Jack Kerouac's On The Road....)
