hover and vanish

An article in The Guardian-UK describes reasons why there are allegedly high numbers of people filing for divorce each year in January --

at first the article kind of makes it sound like Christmas is just "too hard" because in-laws and pressurized activities and entertaining make so much stress that it causes divorce,

but then adds probably the divorce-filers were planning this months ago, but decided to "get through" Christmas for the sake of children and other family members.

One reader Commented:
---------------------- Nothing new here.  This article or one very similar has been a staple item in every newspaper and magazine post-Christmas for the last 30 years.

Yes, we all know that Xmas can provide fertile ground for "the last straw".  I look forward to [this author's] next article with revelations about the Pope's religious faith and the toilet habits of bears in wooded areas. -------------------------

Searching, this weekend, for Something Interesting To Consider, I discovered a poem written by T.S. Eliot titled "Morning at the Window" --

_____________________

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,

And along the trampled edges of the street

I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids

Sprouting despondently at area gates.

The brown waves of fog toss up to me

Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,

And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts

An aimless smile that hovers in the air

And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

painting by Tony Bennett

----------------------- I find myself fascinated by the fact that singer Tony Bennett and rock-and-roller Bob Dylan paint pictures in their free time....  And I really like their work.  I like to sometimes find a picture by one of these guys and stick it on here for the enjoyment of anyone passing through....
