obvious fiction

headline in The New York Times, yesterday:

Aware of Injuries Inside, Uvalde Police Waited to Confront Gunman

More than a dozen students remained alive for over an hour before officers entered their classrooms.  The commander feared a risk to officers' lives, new documents show.

some reader comments below the article:

Richard Blaine

Not NYC

~ It is very hard to read this article.  How can anybody read these words, and not know that this must never be allowed to happen again?

England, Australia, New Zealand and Canada all have better laws.

What is wrong with Republicans?

Do they take pleasure in the suffering of others?

What is wrong with them?

New Jersey

~ Police can't protect us.  Only we can by voting for politicians willing to enact an assault weapons ban.

Los Angeles

~ If an 18-year-old can legally purchase two weapons that are so deadly that even armed police are afraid to confront him, maybe it's time to ban those weapons.

And maybe it's also time to stop propagating the obvious fiction that more "good guys with guns" are the antidote to bad guys with guns.

NYC

~ I was a holdout against the whole "defund" movement, but now I'm on board.  If the police have no obligation to protect us, then I really don't see why we need them.

Seattle

~ Police officers should be coming out against weapons that they themselves are afraid to confront.

Chicago

~ Military grade assault weapons should be illegal.  It's the guns, stupid.

Imperato

NYC

~ Beyond sickened by this event.  Only insane people would not pass gun control laws.

Leigh Dellinger

Washington DC

~ If the police were so fearful, imagine the poor children who were faced with the killer.
