postwar Vienna

the Leica IIIc

Last Friday I was mentioning here that The Third Man is on You Tube, you can watch for free, no ads, and there's both the original black-and-white film, and a colorized version (same exact movie, but in color).

So then in the new "Jackie" book, Camera Girl by Carl Sferrazza Anthony, I encountered this passage:

------------------- [excerpt] ------------ By nightfall, she was on a train speeding to Vienna, "with my nose to the window watching Germany go by."  Of course, she brought along her Leica.  Weeks earlier, Jackie had seen the film The Third Man... -------------------------- [end / excerpt]

So Jackie saw The Third Man in 1949, the year it came out.

I saw it for the first time 32 years later.

And now on You Tube you can see it 74 years later.
