Hey, where did we go

"Confidence is silent.  Insecurity is loud."

~~  John Neely Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Louisiana

I remember the point when serious doubt about Congress's abilities invaded my thinking -- it was in the midst of a "government shutdown" 2013 -- and a U.S. House of Representatives member (Republican) fielded a question as to whether government checks would stop:  she answered that they had better not because, "I need my paycheck.  That's the bottom line."

I need my paycheck.  That's the bottom line.

Well, it's good to know what's important.

For heaven's sake -- it's a certain kind of stupid to be thinking so small and self-absorbed while in a position of service to people and country; it's an advanced kind of stupid to say it out loud, and it's a Really Special type of stupid when she says it to the press!

     Frightening.

I suppose there is a reason why someone who is that obtuse gets into Congress, it's because someone wants them there, to vote their way.  (There's work to be done, people....)

If you want to listen to one of Pres. Trump's sons in a recent interview, you can type in

Eric Trump:  our country is richer because of president donald trump's policies, you tube

...there is a 15-minute conversation there from CNBC, made 6 days ago after the State of the Union speech.

Eric Trump speaks pretty fast -- there are other interviews with him on You Tube, and he has done worse, for sure.  Something that can be said for him is, he has improved his televised conversation skills.

He tries to help his dad -- speak up for him, touting economic items, and trying to "tamp down" offensive remarks the president has said or tweeted -- the son refers to that as his father's "tone."  ...  "Well, you may not always like the tone, but..."

(And that's a little trick politicians use -- I've noticed it lately -- by saying, "YOU may not like" something, whatever it is, they sneakily put the burden on the other person -- "you don't like..." or may not like... it's you, You.... it's sort of attacking the other speaker without seeming to....)

Young Trump referred to Americans who voted for his dad as "the base." ... "The base loves it when he [the president] says something to rile up the establishment..."

One spot in the conversation, Mr. Eric Trump suggested that the president and Democrat leader Chuck Schumer could work together very well -- he says, "you would be surprised..." and added that there are "things we all agree on, like infrastructure..."

He has learned, over the past year or so, how to sidestep controversial questions -- at one point as I listened, I thought, OK, if we're going to have "tap-dancing," where is the music?...

Whatever happened
To Tuesday, and so slow
Going down to the old mine with a
Transistor radio.
Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hide behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and a-sliding
All along the waterfall
With you, my brown-eyed girl...

On the Internet, type in

Van Morrison, Brown-Eyed Girl

and    Play.
