These British people have a great civilization, are leaders in history, science, and the arts, and yet -- sometimes they seem quaint and even silly, and the class system and royal thing seem simultaneously understandable and inexplicable.
(We say, "Well -- that's how they do things there.")
It's all -- an idea, which people are raised to believe in. Or at least, to respect.
