"there is a way of doing things"

 

        

Thinking about the British Monarchy and trying to understand it better, I decided to watch The Crown again.

        Their system is not that different from our own, it's the same in a lot of ways, except for one major thing, and that's their "Royal Family."  And the component of that, which our Founding Fathers really wanted to break away from, was having religion intertwined with the idea of royalty.

        (It's all ideas, which people agree to believe in -- or, are raised to believe in...)

        There's that thing where the new king or queen is having their coronation, and they are touched by "holy oil" and then that -- does something -- puts them in touch with the divine...?  The Divine, I mean...?

        That's the part where I always stop and go, "Whoa there, put on the brakes."  Because in the U.S. we have Separation Of Church And State.  Theirs is -- all "wrapped together" -- the queen is head of State, and head of the Church of England.  ("Supreme Governor of the Church of England," according to Lord Google....)

Meaning is the goal.  Ideas and tradition support the meaning.  So that citizens can feel like, "This is my country.  I belong."
