Uvalde: seventy minutes of police inaction

Angeli Gomez

Uvalde, Texas

reader comment in The New York Times:

I just watched an interview with the mother of 2 Uvalde students who were inside of the school while police stood around outside.

The police first tried to prevent the mother from parking her car; then they harassed, threatened, handcuffed her.

Another officer uncuffed her after some time.

As soon as they uncuffed her she ran into the school, found her children and others, and got them to safety.

She said she listened to where the gunshots were, and approached the building from the other side.  THEN later the police threatened her and told her not to talk to the press, not to tell anyone her story.

She said police were more focused on harassing and threatening parents than they were on saving the children.
