there's a better life, and you think about it don't you

 "She was one of the  most unifying forces in American culture."

That's what a news announcer said a few hours ago, about Dolly Parton.

 In a television interview, Dolly said, "I look like a woman but I think like a man, and in this world of business that has helped me a lot, because by the time they think - that I don't know what's goin' on, I done got the money and gone."

Sometimes when I think of Dolly Parton, I remember the movie 9 To 5, starring Dolly, and Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

I saw that in Boston, when it came out.

        The song "9 To 5" from the movie was played on the radio - living in Boston I listened to WBCN, which was an AOR (album-oriented rock) station - they played "9 To 5" and country music stations played it, too.

Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen,

Pour myself a cup of ambition,

And yawn and stretch and try to come to life

Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin'

Out on the street the traffic starts jumpin'

With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5

Workin' 9 to 5,

What a way to make a livin'

Barely gettin' by

They just use your mind

It's enough to drive you  

Crazy if you let it

9 to 5, for service and devotion

You would think that I

Would deserve a fair promotion

Want to move ahead

But the boss wont seem to let me
