and as I walked on

[The New York Times - "170 Bikers Charged in Waco....The suspects faced charges of engaging in organized crime linked to capital murder in a shootout among rival gangs on Sunday in Texas."]

------------------- Reader Comment  (Seattle) -- Another shameful instance of white-on-white crime.  Where are the leaders of the white community denouncing this incident?  It's high time the white community starts accepting responsibility for the transgressions of its members.  I know it's only a small percentage of whites who commit these crimes but that doesn't matter.  I blame all this on bluegrass and country music.

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?  Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

______________ Recently at the end of a documentary I watched, that song came on, and I was like -- I haven't heard that in so long!!  And it is a good song:  I think when I heard it brand new, on album-oriented rock radio in Boston, I might have not appreciated it as much because my energies were thoroughly engaged -- I truly could not process and appreciate everything around me...one thing at a time, you know?  Only so much room in my head...

But hearing it now, thought -- man that is a good song!

Written by Nick Lowe

in 1974, recorded in 1978 by

Elvis Costello, it is a song which sounds familiar the first time you ever hear it -- as if you're rounding a corner and spotting the goal you've been traveling toward...the short stretch of road, the picket fence...there it is!

Other songs that sound like you knew them the first time you hear them include

"Sitting in Limbo"

"Proud Mary"

"Hey Jude"

"Ramblin' Man"

"Bonaparte's Retreat"

____________It is a mysterious phenomenon.

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace, love & understanding?  Ohhh
What's so funny about peace, love & understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, Just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace, love & understanding?  Ohhhh
What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, Just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny about peace love & understanding?  Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?  Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
