Washington Post --

~~  Jax    Good for him.  I still don't see the point of having a religious figure in our government's legislature, but if they're going to have one, the way Ryan tried to screw this guy over was mean, bizarre and pointless.

~~  The fact that Republicans think that praying for "fairness for all" is too political says everything you need to know about their agenda.

~~  With the Speaker resigning why fire the chaplain now and why does Ryan claim he had minority leader Pelosi's support for his actions, when he clearly did not?  Another self-inflicted wound by the Republicans.

~~  Kilroy 71    Wait...the GOP said the tax bill benefits "everybody."  Isn't that the answer to the padre's prayer?  Then what's the problem, Lyin' Ryan?

~~  The chaplain stands firm.
       Ryan is a twerp.

~~  How dare a priest remind Republicans what Christian values really are, and that Republican values fly in the face of all the teachings of Christ?

~~  Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

~~  Nice.  The motto of the Jesuits.

~~  Jesus is way too liberal for today's conservatives.

~~  I love it - now the Radical Right numbskulls take on the Jesuits - good luck with that!

~~  Are we supposed to believe politicians went to Ryan with complaints that the chaplain wasn't ministering to them enough?  This is crazy.

~~  morealikethandifferent    Ryan taking on a Jesuit (which means someone with a conscience who is also highly educated).  Ryan was totally out of his weight class.

~~  Another day, another episode of the most corrupt and amoral White House and GOP government on record.

~~  Good for you, Padre.

~~  Good for him.  If Ryan wants him gone, he'll have to fire him.
Seems that bullying, pressuring others and lying are becoming the GOP  MO - following the example of you know who.

~~  Father, please don't step down until you exorcize the House chamber.

~~  max74mm    Sounds like it's lying Ryan that needs to resign.

~~  Thumbs up to Conroy.  Thumbs way down to Ryan.

~~  "No -- I AM your father."  The Conroy Strikes Back.

~~  The fake Evangelical Christians that hate the working people, the sick, the needy, women and people of color didn't appreciate being reminded of Jesus' teachings by Conroy.

~~  Well, you can hardly blame them.  Being reminded of the teachings of Christ when you are so busy breaking them right and left is just plain annoying.

~~  Just ask the Pharisee Trump...

~~  Republicans are trying to force him out, they've basically reverted back to the Know-Nothings who, among other things, were anti-Catholic.

~~  Extra!  Read all about it!  Rev. Conroy resurrects job as House Chaplain!  Schedules Mass Exorcism of Lust, Greed, & Hypocrisy for November 6!

~~  When will the Pope intervene and excommunicate Ryan?

~~  Go Jezzie, go Jezzie!  Make the godless heathens throw you out!

~~  Evangelicals don't like Catholics.  Or Jews.  Or each other.

~~  Ryan would fire Jesus for helping the working people.

~~  A chaplain advocating for the poor in direct opposition to Republican fealty to the rich.  As Tom Petty sang, "I'm Gonna Stand My Ground."

~~  w dale houston    Ryan seems to not be telling the truth here.  Which is par for the course.

~~  stoptherussians    Finally!  Somebody stands up to leadership!
If we ever thought that DC was crazy, we had no idea what "crazy" really meant up there till 2017 and now.

~~  Good for the Chaplain.  We shouldn't give an inch when dealing with Republicans in Congress, or elsewhere.  I've had it with these people, who have earned nothing but derision for their actions and values, or lack thereof.

~~  jamez1
Does Ryan have no sense at all?
The answer: no he does not.

~~  Between-the-lines reading of this:  "On second thought, why don't I stay on the job until just after you're gone, you prepubescent turdweasel."

~~  I remember when Catholics were once the staunch backers of the Democratic Party and champion of civil rights.

It's when Vatican II happened that the split in the church took place, bringing in the conservative sector...

I quit Catholicism for a load of reasons.  Politicians like Gingrich, Santorum, Ryan and Jindal taking it as their religion is one of those reasons.

~~  R.E.S.I.S.T.

~~  "Ryan's aides were still waiting to fully read the letter and said the office would comment later Thursday."  It's a two-page letter!  Can't somebody read it to them?

~~  Good for him!  Hit the road, Ryan, and get a real job for once in your life.

~~  esquire 55    Republicans can't govern, they can't lead (except show the way to the bottom).  Good grief.

~~  mybordercollieissmarterthanyourpolitician
I never thought I'd be rooting for a Priest...but I am!

~~  Ben Aaron    Ryan is such a toady he'd never pull a move like firing a priest on his own.  Question is, who called for this move?

~~  Oh, the padre prayed for the working people.  That's a big no-no in Ryan's book.

~~  The only person who should leave, and is leaving, is Ryan.  This is just an additional reason his retirement can't come soon enough.

~~  People should try to be the sort of Christian who would get fired by Paul Ryan.

~~  johngmd2    This is what happens when you put incompetent amateurs like Paul Ryan in charge.

~~  citizen fred    the craziest of the republicans got mad because the Rev. had the nerve to mention charity and goodwill in his prayers.  Of course Paul Ryan and company saw this as a vicious partisan attack.

~~  wajim    Give 'em Hell, Padre!

~~  ...Tell Ryan you'll see his bluff and raise him an excommunication.

~~  Since he was a boy in High School Ryan has been living on the public dole even until today.

He has NEVER earned a meaningful paycheck that wasn't funded with Taxpayer money.

That's why he tries so adamantly to destroy the programs that benefited him.

~~  i h8 bs
I think his mistake was reminding Congress of a basic tenet of Christian/Judaic teaching:  worshiping power and money is bad; taking care of the less fortunate is good.

~~  Don't ever mess with the Jesuits.

~~  toledo01    I love it.  Old Irish vs. new Irish.

~~  zabaglione    Ryan is what happens when assimilation goes too far

~~  Ignatius of Loyola was once a soldier, and thus the Jesuits were sometimes referred to using military terms (soldiers of God etc.)  But the Society was always a missionary and educational order, not a fighting order.

~~  chappell1
And they value education, logic and reason above all.  They're fun to debate with.
