has Orrin Hatch learned Nothing in 27 years?

After imagining my cat Midnight Perry being nominated for President (out of a brokered Convention), I was informed that a l45-pound domestic pig was nominated for President in 1968.

At the Democrats' never boring Chicago Convention in August of that year, the Youth International Party presented a swine they had purchased from an Illinois farmer as their candidate, in a symbolic gesture against the Vietnam War.

Several Party members were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct; the pig was placed in a police wagon and taken to the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society.

Y.I.P. leader Jerry Rubin later said that a policeman came to the jail cell and said, "You guys are all going to jail for the rest of your lives -- the pig squealed on you!"

The activists were bailed out the next day, $25 each.
