biting satire - physical force

"This is not normal.

This is not normal.

This is not normal.

This is not normal."

~~  Reader Comment in the New York Times on a story, "Trump Defends Initial Remarks on Charlottesville; Again Blames 'Both Sides'"

________________________________

I just got done typing here, yesterday, that President Trump gave a good speech that was appropriate, encouraging Americans' humanity and respect toward one another (and he didn't make faces!) -- then he turned around and had a press conference in the lobby of Trump Tower in NYC, and went back....

His remarks are seen by many as "giving aid and comfort" to Nazis.

Probably he had already reversed himself while I was still typing in nice comments about his Monday speech -- and why am I surprised, he did that all last year while he was campaigning: say something, then reverse it, sometimes in the same day.  Or in the same paragraph.  Or sentence.

("...Then they came for the Trade Unionists... Then they came for the Jews...")

This is not normal.

Every time I see the president having another "rally" somewhere, I have an uneasy feeling.

Don't have rallies; work on your infrastructure plan.

------------ Pres. Trump got elected -- why does he still seem to be campaigning?  Putting-on-a-show.  Soaking up the - ... love?

It occurred to me Saturday -- what if the anti-racism protesters hadn't shown up? -- Just leave the original pro-racist or fascist demonstrators walking around talking to each other?  No one to bat against, or yell at, or posture for...?  Would that have worked out better?

To not protest against them, take no stand, take no pictures, give no attention, pretend they're not there...  I think most people can remember being advised by their mom or dad, "Just ignore them" if someone's being mean...

EXT.  Political reception - Night.

MED. CLOSE SHOT -- small group socializing

Isaac:
Has anybody read that the Nazis are gonna march in New Jersey?  You know?  I read this in the newspaper.  We should go down there, get some guys together, you know, get some bricks and baseball bats and -- really -- explain things to 'em.

Jerry:
There was this devastating satirical piece on that, on the Op-Ed page of the Times.  It was devastating.

Isaac:
We-ell...a satirical piece in the Times is one thing, but bricks and baseball bats really gets right to the point...

Helen:
Oh, but really biting satire is always better than physical force.

Isaac:
But physical force is always better with Nazis. ...
