I Don't Want To Know

An article today about a member of President Trump's White House staff:  several of the Readers Commented with varying versions of the idea, "I don't want to read about this."

"I don't need to know any more bout this person."

"Don't give him any more publicity; it's just what he wants."

"I can see he's a terrible person who is dangerous to our democracy, I don't need to know why."

It sounds like some of the Commenters last week who said, "I don't even want to know the reason the shooting person in Las Vegas killed people.  There is no good 'reason'..."

------------------ Is this line of thinking a mistake, like the expression, "burying your head in the sand like an ostrich"?

Or is it a good idea to give no attention to people who thrive on the negative attention?  Don't "give them any air," in other words. ...

A Reader named
Bill McGrath
Commented:

"This raises a question for me:  will this movement of destructive characters die of its own nihilism, or will we have to suffer the same fate as Europe in the 1930s?  We might hope for the former, but we better consider the latter as a distinct possibility.  Raw hatred and intolerance seem to be growing here in the US at an alarming rate.  I shudder at the thought that it might become viral and drag us all into a nuclear holocaust."

Don't read the news or listen to it.

Think about what we can do, constructively, to make things better.

... Don't think about it.

It reminds me of the famous advice in the Sixties:
"Tune in, turn on, drop out."

The concern seems to be, that one of Trump's "advisers' (U.S. Senator John McCain referred to him as, "You mean the 31-year-old?") is pushing a fascist agenda.  But the core of this worry is that Pres. Trump is listening to this person:  which brings the question immediately to my mind -- Does Trump Listen To Anyone??

(This question is neither praise for, nor criticism of, Trump, merely a question.)

----------------- Is this like, instead of "fiddling while Rome is burning" we're You Tube-ing while Rome is burning?  hopefully not...
