October 4, 2017 New York Times
QUOTATION OF THE DAY,
on the Las Vegas mass shooting -- John Thune, U.S. Senator from South Dakota:

"I think people are going to have to take steps in their own lives to take precautions.  To protect themselves.  And in situations like that, you know, try to stay safe.  As somebody said -- get small."

"We'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by."
~~ Donald Trump, U.S. President

"They [Puerto Rico] owe a lot of money to your friends on Wall Street and we're going to have to wipe that out.  You're going to say goodbye to that, I don't know if it's Goldman Sachs, but whoever it is you can wave goodbye to that."
~~ Donald Trump, U.S. President

"This is more work than in my previous life."
~~ Donald Trump, U.S. President

And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can try -- to understand
the New York Times' effect on man

Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother

You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive

Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'

And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive...

When Hugh Hefner died last week, I read some interesting articles and comments, and I had memories as well.  (The Playboy enterprise was in the background of everyone's growing-up years mid-20th-century, like "wallpaper" -- like CBS News now.  Not the biggest thing going, but just -- there.  You might think you don't pay any attention to it, but somehow it's in your awareness.  Giving off some sort of -- muted -- fog -- of moral disfavor, allure, daring-ness, controversy....[Politics.  Religion.  Sex....])

I was going to write some more about Hefner, because I discovered some interesting  stuff -- but then Monty Hall died, and Tom Petty died....

And I felt like, OK, I don't want to get preoccupied with every "famous person" who dies; this isn't "the Death Blog."

So, based on this idea, plus recently had been listening to the Bee Gees' "Jive Talkin'" -- we now go to You Tube and play (drumroll...)

The Bee Gees, Stayin' Alive

(turning it u-u-uuu-pp...)

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman's man:  no time to talk.

Music loud and women warm,
I've been kicked around since I was born

And now it's all right -- it's OK
And you may look the other way...
