run in the shadows

I had several vacation days, so with Free Time cushioning the space around necessary chores, I was feeling a certain peacefulness (which coexists alongside voracious curiosity about what the Internet might know, today...).

I got to thinking about halfway through Tuesday that maybe next time I have Vacation, I should also Take A Break from News.

Monday the Internet informed me that

~  the FBI had tossed the office of Pres. Trump's attorney

~  Lindsey Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac.  Again.

~  and Rudy Giuliani was getting divorced.  Again.

(In the 1990s then-Mayor of New York City Rudolph Giuliani seemed like an interesting politician you could admire, but post-911, he has gone off the rails.  He has become a disordered person.  My theory is, he had some success [lowering NYC's crime rate, making it good for tourism again], but then he got notoriety and "fame" -- dare we say "celebrity" -- and he just got carried away.

An ego that is out of control can make a smart person dumb.

He doesn't keep his personal life organized -- at 73 years old! -- and he expects to live like that and be a public figure.  That is not smart.  [And the current, soon-to-be-ex- wife seems like she's crazy too...]).

(And just to keep our information technically correct, Giuliani is not the NYC mayor famous for wanting to put a tax on soda pop:  that was Mayor Bloomberg.)

Back to more important news:  Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham??!!  What are they thinking?  And this was done right before a tour.

Two guitarists hired to replace Buckingham:  Mike Campbell and Neil Finn.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roy Munson
They're so awful.  Can't believe that many people like them

~~   Fleetwood would be no one without Buckingham....however it will be interesting to hear Finn with them.
Campbell...big deal..

~~  Bullshit.  Christine wrote most of their hits and Stevie has a huge following.  Not to mention they have quite a following from before Lindsey ever joined the band.

~~   Fleetwood Mac and Rumors were Lindsey's masterpiece, Tusk was a very good album while still being a train wreck, and everything Lindsey's done solo is bordering on abstract!  He's a phenomenal guitarist and probably one of the better finger pickers, but he's just shy of certifiable....

Will Thomas
...Buckingham is the real genius among very talented band mates.  Finn is wonderful.  Campbell is first rate.

pw lane
It's like Peter Townsend quitting the Who..
I understand that Peter Green is available..

Luigi 2121
So where is he?

~~   Peter Green is in no condition to do this.

Michael Landy
Can't believe they would do that never seeing another Fleetwood Mac concert again.

Paul Tatara
Unless this means he won't be on Rumours the next time I listen to it, I don't really care.

~~   Really?  The band that put the "dys" in dysfunctional?

~~   WTF?  First Kim Kardashian get robbed and now THIS????

T.E. Valentine
You know you're firing real talent when they need two people to replace them.  Just end this already, why crash it into the ground?

~~   They replaced Lindsey with two guitarists (Billy Burnette & Rick Vito) thirty years ago, too, so this was the second time.

MarkInIrvine
Wait ... wasn't Buckingham the spark that lit Rumours on fire and made it such a hit?  Any chance of going back to the Peter Green era catalog?

ChrisSnyder60
...lost me after Bob Welch was gone.  Best era was Future Games through Heroes.  After the album with "Rhiannon" (which was okay for a difference), they got too commercial.

~~   Chill out Sparky it would of been 45 yrs ago.  Don't you have a hedge to prune?

~~   ...two words you can never put together:  "would of."  Don't you have a GED to obtain?

~~   Neil Finn is great.

James P.
I'm shocked because this isn't a stunt that would be pulled if the band were in their early years.

They're all up in age and should be grateful that they can play and gets hordes of people to see them just like we are happy that we can see and hear them one more time.  I do like the 2 players they hired.  The tour is still going to be lacking without Lindsey.

~~   I just saw Buckingham-McVie last year, and they were terrific.  I'll let that be my final Fleetwood live gig, and end it on a high note.  This is ridiculous.

~~   WTF -- He was my favorite part of that band.

~~   Where is the reporting on *why* Buckingham is out?  Everybody just pretending there is no reason for this?

~~   Sounds like second hand news.  Maybe they should just stop thinking about tomorrow and become more like gypsies.

Mateo8
1987 all over again.  Two guys to replace Lindsey.

~~   Lindsey can replace them with any other band (or no-one) and it still would sound more like Fleetwood Mac than the rest of band.

~~   You are somewhat delusional.

~~   This probably would have mattered 40 years ago.

~~   Ouch!!

Conrad Stinnett
Mr. Buckingham must have big shoes, since it apparently takes two musicians to fill them.

Michael Rocker
LOL.  This band is FM in name only.  This is far from the FM I saw back in the very early 70s.

Nathan Hyatt
That's the FM that you and 2 other people prefer to Buckingham and Nicks.

Christian Lindsey
Yeah no kidding.  lol that old English bar blues was really setting the world on fire.

Michael Rocker
There were more than myself and 2 others.  When BN joined the band they changed the whole band around.  They went from a Blues rock band to a top 40 pop band.

Ray Dustin
This is all just part of their dance, right?

~~   It's all just Rumours.

Ang Nihtgenga
I guess somebody broke The Chain.  Again.

~~   They had a remarkable history before Buckingham ... This is a resilient band.  They will do well.

~~   !!!

~~   Never!

Tad Foster
Sorry guys, you just lost me as a fan by doing this.

~~   I was shy to say it first, Tad...

Sunny Daye
Remember when Diana Ross fired Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong right before the Supremes tour?  That tour disintegrated after two shows.  Well, Fleetwood Mac's plans just became the Hindenburg Tour.

~~   exactly

~~   Remember when all the Kiss fans said Kiss wasn't Kiss without Peter and Ace, and the shows sold out anyway?

John Seger
Without Buckingham, I won't attend this tour.  I'll stick to Stevie Nicks solo.

df  JailBanksters
Guaranteed it came down to a hissy match between him and Ms. Mysterious Dwarf again.

bull123
He was always a drama king

Stpauljoe
I needed to check the date this was written.  Thought I was reading an April Fool's article.

~~   I know right?
