security guards work without guns; police can too

Lee Camp:  Let Me Fix That for The New York Times -- Police Kill Another Innocent Man

"I decided to fix some of the awful reporting by the NY Times. ...I only looked at one page...before I picked an article to correct.  It's high time we started seeing our most respected media outlets for what they really are."

-------------- note by this blog
{The NYT headline he corrects ran Dec. 29, 2017:

Summoned by a Prank Call, Police in Wichita Kill a Man at His Front Door

Mr. Camp circled and crossed out the phrase "summoned by a prank call" and noted underneath, "(Doesn't matter)" leaving the headline to read,

Police in Wichita Kill a Man at His Front Door}

----------------- end, note by this blog

Camp:
A few days ago police in Kansas were called to a house by a prankster.

They shot and killed the man who came to the door.

He knew nothing about the prank call.

(The term for such pranks is "swatting.")

This New York Times article would have you believe that what really matters in this murder was the fact that the cops were called by a prankster.  But in truth, that should be nothing but a side note.

Police get called to scenes they don't need to be at all the time.  It's not uncommon.  Whether it's because someone thinks their neighbor's music is too loud....

A lot of what the police are SUPPOSED to do is show up somewhere and NOT shoot whoever they see.  In fact, that's MOST of their job.  But what the NY Times won't tell you about policing in America could drown a small town....

A Reader Comment on a story in the NYT a few Saturdays ago, about Jimmy Carter...

Madeline Conant
Midwest
...Like Jimmy Carter's family, I voted for Barack Obama, twice, and I was proud to do it.

Obama has more style and class than any president we have had since JFK.

However, on balance, I think he was a disappointment.

Of course, he was bitterly opposed at every turn by the Republicans; I get that.  But really, what do we have to show from Obama's presidency?  He barely got his toe in the door to create a national health care system that pours tax money into the insurance corporate coffers.  That's pretty much it.

Obama sold out to Wall Street and the bankers, just like they all do.  He was totally oblivious to the festering pain in flyover country, just like they all (still) are.  Social media has turned everything on its head and who knows what is going to happen next.  No one, that's who.
