that something extra



James Wolcott wrote, in Lucking Out, "There's more to this world than this world."


That's how I feel about any of the arts, or any uplifting work, by man or nature, or happenstance -- the message they give us is part of the reason people believe in God, I think.


Like -- there's something extra, and it cannot be explained.


Wolcott was writing about ballet:  his sentence goes --


-------------------- Technique and artistry animate ballet, as they do any performing art, but the mystery and alchemy of presence are what open the dome, making you realize there's more to this world than this world.
