from today's New York Times:

Representative Ken Buck, a conservative Colorado Republican who played a central role in ousting Kevin McCarthy from the speakership, said he will not seek re-election next year, citing his party's election denialism and many members' refusal to condemn the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol.

"We lost our way," said Mr. Buck.... "We have an identity crisis in the Republican Party.  If we can't address the election denier issue and we continue down that path, we won't have credibility with the American people, that we are going to solve problems."

There would be no AR 15s and ammo if dealers stopped selling these...that is the only way this can end.

@Wilma    As long as it is legal and profitable they will be sold.  For many men, holding an assault rifle triggers a euphoric release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that fill us with joy and energy.

These are the same receptors that opiates bind to.

I was unaware of this until I began working with recovering addicts.  One patient told me that the emotional high he felt when injecting heroin was the only thing close to the way he felt when he was in combat and pulled the trigger.

POLICE:  "Don't defund us because if you do crime will run rampant."

(Gunman, whom the police knew was mentally ill and a danger to the community, kills multiple people.)

POLICE:  "Not much we can do about that."

GOP:  "Yeah, yeah, thoughts and prayers.  Good guy with a gun.  Yap yap yap."

It all seems crazy on so many levels, but I think blaming anyone besides the second amendment people, the NRA, gun manufacturers and the politicians who live off the political grift is wrong.

Expecting the police to carry the burden of our insane gun policies is unfair to them and the easiest way to shift the blame.

Guns kill people, and so does anyone who supports the NRA and their cabal of attorneys and politicians.
